Echo-Habitat

In the beginning, Mayakoba was home to 20 species of vertebrates, including fish, amphibians, reptiles and other small animals. At last count, there are more than 270 species, of which approximately 20% are endangered and protected. These include the Mexican Sail Fin Molly, which can be found only in this area; the Leopard Frog, the American Crocodile (with many baby crocodiles born here every year), several species of sea turtles (including the rare and giant Leatherback), the incredible Wood Stork and the Northern Tamandua, commonly called the Anteater. The inventory also includes 25 species of migratory birds, such as the Roseate Spoonbill and the American Coot.

Mayakoba now has a resident biologist at each of its luxury resorts and has the continuous support of an in house team of highly acclaimed scientists.
