Echo-Habitat

The tropics represent the most biologically rich environment on Earth, with teeming vegetation and animal life.

The vegetation in Mayakoba is integrated by a semi-evergreen seasonal forest, a tropical forest with a two story seasonal canopy. Here, in the upper story of the rainforest, large trees can be found, such as the pom, the resin which is used as incense in traditional ceremonies, the chacah trees, the juices of which serve as a cure to the rashes of the chechem, or the "black poison wood". The closed canopy permits leaf accumulation and mulching of the thin tropical soil.

Mayakoba´s rainforest is home to more than 300 species of plants (such as orchids, epiphytes, vines, and a wide variety of trees), and more than 200 species of animals.
