One of Mayakoba’s most original aspects is the network
of lagoons and canals that permits guests to move from hotel to
golf course to beach club via a lancha, a low-slung teakwood boat
with a thatched roof. Using the pure, clear water that runs underneath
the Yucatan’s limestone surface, Mayakoba’s designers
sculpted waterways that are much more than transportation. The
countless views they offer of jungle, mangrove forests and dunes,
as well as the exotic plants and
animals who flourish there, enrich every visitor’s experience
of the natural world. The sense of peace, quiet and luxury evoked
by a boat trip on the lagoons is an apt symbol of Mayakoba as
a whole.
